Protecting the lid of a concrete water storage tank

The 27,000 s.f. post-tensioned tank lid at the Howard Berry Water Treatment Plant was experiencing map cracking and mild concrete degradation. While not structurally deficient, the need to protect the lid from further deterioration, and eliminate the ingress of untreated water through the lid, led the City of Louisville to apply a high-performance coating.

After consulting on all of the variables related to job site conditions (see our blog on traffic coating selection), the City Engineer selected the Tnemec Series 154 as a customizable system to accommodate positive side waterproofing, maintain vapor permeability, provide slip resistance for occasional pedestrian traffic, and withstand the intense UV from the Colorado sunshine!

The result was a very satisfied owner, and a system that should help protect their asset for many years to come.
